The Role of Effective and Well-Enforced Building Codes in Reducing Wind Driven Losses: The Case of Florida

Avoiding hurricane wind losses through the Florida Statewide building codes are explored by combining insured loss and policy data with Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule data. Empirical results verify the benefits of effective and well-enforced building codes,  with windstorm losses reduced by as much as 72 percent due to the implementation of the Florida statewide codes.
